Philosophy of Professional Advanced Nursing Practice

Family nurse practitioners are advanced practice registered nurses that have completed a master’s degree program and clinical training to independently manage care for people of all ages.  Nurse practitioners have been educated and trained to perform patient assessments, order and interpret diagnostic tests, diagnose patients, prescribe medications, and manage patient care.  Nurse practitioners are unique in their role as providers as they care for patients holistically with an emphasis on health promotion, disease prevention, and patient-centered anticipatory guidance and education.

My philosophy is to provide high quality, safe, effective, and holistic care to every single patient.  This is achieved by ensuring every patient encounter is ethical, honest, and patient-centered with current evidence-based practice knowledge as the core component.  My experience as a registered nurse has shown me how important it is to care for the whole person.  I especially learned this in the home health setting.  Caring for patients in their homes exposed me to so many aspects of patients' lives.  I was able to see that a patient's physical health is determined by much more than a pulse and blood pressure.  Patient's physical health is determined by so many factors including their mental health, beliefs, home environment, available resources, finances, and so much more.  I believe that when care is patient-centered with a holistic approach, the provider and the patient can work together to accomplish patient-centered healthcare goals to improve the quality of life and satisfaction of patients.  I hope to treat every patient encounter as unique and have the heart of a servant.
