Essential I

Chest Cavity

Background for Practice from Sciences and Humanities

"Recognizes that the master’s-prepared nurse integrates scientific findings from nursing, biopsychosocial fields, genetics, public health, quality improvement, and organizational sciences for the continual improvement of nursing care across diverse settings"

(American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2011, p. 4).

A background in sciences and humanities is essential for advanced practice nurses to attain in order to provide evidence-based holistic care.  I developed a solid scientific and humanities background during my undergraduate studies, however, my knowledge of science and humanities has evolved over the course of this graduate program.  One of my weaknesses prior to this program was the musculoskeletal system.  However, my courses in advanced pathophysiology, pharmacology, and assessment have prepared me to practice effectively to manage musculoskeletal complications.  These courses along with my clinical rotations have provided me with advanced scientific knowledge and reliable resources essential to safe and effective evidence-based practice.  The assignments provided helped me to meet this competency as they apply advanced pathophysiology, pharmacology, and assessment knowledge and skills pertinent when managing these diseases in practice.

I developed a solid educational background in science during my undergraduate journey.  However, at King University my scientific knowledge has grown exponentially

My paper on pneumococcal pneumonia describes the pathophysiology, signs, symptoms, treatment, and management of pneumococcal pneumonia in great detail.

My paper on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a three-part project that provides great detail on the pathophysiology, signs, symptoms, treatment, management, and patient education on this disease.  The educational portion for this assignment provides patient education in an easy way for patients to comprehend the material.

This assignment focuses on the disease pathology of the human papillomavirus (HPV), statistics of women affected by the disease, and quality improvement measures to reduce the incidence of this disease in communities.
